Patricia Ann Madison
March 29, 1944 – May 27, 2021
Local artist, Patty Madison, 77, of Grand Lake Colorado, passed away on Thursday May 27, 2021 at the Middle Park Health Hospital in Kremmling Colorado.
Patty was born in Greeley Colorado on March 29, 1944 to Edward Leroy and Elva Lena Beck. She spent much of her childhood living in Grand Lake in a house built by her father. She had no siblings.
Although Patty also lived in Kansas, Missouri and Arizona during her life, Grand County was always her home in her heart. Her calling in life revolved around art, with a strong interest in history. She launched her adult life by graduating from the University of Missouri at Kansas City with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Along her path to realize her dreams of making a living from art, she started as a minimum wage bookkeeper for a small hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Patty’s intelligence, talent, and drive led her to complete her accounting career as the Department Head of Accounting at KUAT (PBS) in Arizona. Patty believed in the axiom that life will provide her what she needs and seeks. With that at her side, she quit her job in her late 40’s and decided to pursue her dream. She moved to Bisbee Arizona and eventually back to Grand Lake Colorado while drawing, photographing, and enjoying all the beauty around her. Early on she sold many drawings, cards, and other artistic works while supplementing her income at odd jobs. She eventually opened a frame shop in Granby selling art, art supplies, and framing all types of art and photographs. Patty eventually retired and split her time pursuing creative projects while also working as an Archivist at the Grand County Historical Association (GCHA). With GCHA, Patty found the perfect combination of art and history. Her axiom for life followed and rewarded her all along her path.
Patty is survived by her son Edward Lee Madison and wife Kim Lyn, and son David James Madison and wife Cecilia Vibeke. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kelly, Zachariah, Lena, Elin, and great grandchildren Jade and Connor.
She will be buried in Grand Lake Cemetery with her mother and father, in a private family graveside memorial.
Friends and family knew Patty to be a genuinely good-natured person with a good heart. She drew, photographed, and enjoyed the beauty of the earth we live on and the history of the people who travel its splendor. She will be greatly missed and will remain in our thoughts and hearts forever.
