William (Bill) Michael Hertel's remarkable life came full circle on January 23, 2025.
Born on January 31, 1955, to Donna Wilber of Granby, Colorado, and Ed Hertel of Riverside, California, Bill spent his childhood traveling between California to visit his father and Grand County, where he lived with his mother, stepfather Bill Wilber, and brother David Wilber. In 1980, he made Granby his permanent home.
In 1982, Bill's life took a beautiful turn when he met his devoted wife, Teri Talley. They sealed their love on July 4, 1984, beginning a lifelong journey together.
They were blessed with two incredible daughters, Crissy (Hertel) Wood and Katie Hertel. In 2022, Crissy and her husband, Jeremy Wood, gave Bill one of the greatest joys of his life —their son, Brennan William Wood. He was immensely proud to be "Gramps" to Brennan, treasuring every moment spent with his precious grandson. Bill also had a special place in his heart for his dogs, cherishing the companionship and joy they brought into his life. His family was his greatest pride and joy.
A proud resident of Grand County, Bill found happiness in the great outdoors, embracing his love of boating, fishing, and target shooting. He had a lifelong passion for classic cars and a love for collecting. Through the years, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to own several businesses on Main Street in Granby. He first established High Altitude Audio, specializing in audio and video repair, including TV and satellite system installations. He then shared his love for music by opening Grand Guitars, a guitar and music store where he excelled in instrument repairs. Finally, he pursued his true passion through Western Guncraft, dedicating himself to gunsmithing, with a particular expertise in antique firearm restoration, until his retirement in 2015. He was a true tinkerer and craftsman, known for his vast knowledge, attention to detail, and skill.
Though his journey has come to an end, Bill's indomitable spirit and love for life will continue to inspire all who knew him, and he will be dearly missed.
At this time, there is no plan for a memorial service.
