On January 10, we bade farewell to a kind and wonderful soul, Bill Fisher, who gave his friendship and love to the Fraser Valley and Grand County for over 50 years.
For over five decades, Bill dedicated himself to the betterment of Grand County through his mentorship and leadership (Winter Park Ski Patrol, the Mountain Angler, C Lazy U Ranch). His passing leaves a void that will be felt by all who knew him.
Bill grew up in Milwaukee, WI and graduated from the University of Denver in 1969 where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He first visited Grand County at age 11 with his family as a guest at C Lazy U Ranch.
Following military service, Bill moved to Fraser where his training as a US Army medic made him a valuable addition to the Winter Park Ski Patrol. He served on the Patrol for over 19 years and continued to ski often with lifetime friends from the Patrol who knew him as “Buzz.” He loved Winter Park from the first moment he set his skis on its snow.
A love of outdoors and horses kept Bill connected to the C Lazy U, where he served as Head Wrangler for over 28 years. There, he created a well-known and inspirational horse program that has impacted generations of employees and guests introduced to horsemanship. Bill retired in 2018, to ski, bike and live life enjoying his family, In 2020 he volunteered his time to help rescue the ranch horses during the East Troublesome Fire.
While at C Lazy U, Bill won several accolades and awards including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Colorado Hotel and Lodging Association in 2013. He also had the honor of throwing out the first pitch for the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.
Bill was a guide and mentor to many during his career. Those who worked with him knew him as a true gentleman and a kind and patient leader and individual. Bill’s impact will be forever cherished and his absence will be profoundly felt.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harriet and William Fisher. He has left behind many wonderful friends and his family. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 52 years Emily Fisher; daughters Colby and husband Mitch Dailey and grandchildren Leo and Nora, and Maggie and husband Darryn Wiebe and grandchildren William “Gage,” Evelyn, Noelle and Jack; his sister Nancy and husband Larry Wilhelms; and his brother John and wife Joanie Fisher and children Casey and Laura.
Rest in peace, Bill. Your life will continue to guide and inspire us.
A family celebration of life for Bill is planned this summer. If you wish to honor Bill, kindly make a donation to the charity of your choice.
