Grant passed away unexpectedly on April 4, 2022. He leaves behind to mourn his passing his mother, Katherine Carrington of Alabama, his father and Step Mother, Dean Berke/ Jane Booker of Connecticut, his sister, Lindsey Vann of Utah, his aunt & uncle, Sherri & Leon Lebenkorn of Connecticut, and his grandfather Martin Berke of Florida.
Grant loved hunting, fishing, hiking, and anything that took him outdoors. He worked as a cook, a carpenter, and in one of his favorite jobs, as a ranch hand and a cowboy. He was always ready to tackle a new challenge and to learn (or to teach himself) new skills, even teaching himself to play guitar. He was s mart, but didn't care for the academic world, preferring work he could do with his hands. He was raised in Alabama, and lived part of his life in Connecticut, but he soon discovered that his real home was in the wild places and open spaces of the West. Whether he was in Montana or Colorado, he loved having room to breathe and the silence of an endless sky above him. He was greatly loved, and will be greatly missed. We hope that all of those who lo ve d and cared for him will go out and take a walk in the woods, take a deep breath there, and remember him.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in his name to the Nature Conservancy for the preservation of outdoor space.
