Obituary of Vera Shay
Vera Marie Stathos Shay left this world for a better place but will forever be in our hearts. Vera Marie was born to Nick and Catherine Stathos on July 12, 1930 in Denver, Colorado. At 2 years old, Vera moved with her mother, father, brother and sister to Granby, Colorado starting her love of trains following her father as he worked as a railroad section foreman. Vera attended school in Granby through the 8th grade before moving to Kremmling, Colorado to attending high school. After high school, Vera worked as a switchboard operator until she met Robert Shay. On May 31, 1953 Bob and Vera were married. To this union was born two children, Lisa Marie and Michael Lee.
Vera devoted her life to raising her daughter and son while helping her husband with the bookkeeping for his business. She also loved her family and loved being a sister, aunt, and great aunt. But she still found time to design greeting cards, be an award-winning artist and enjoy writing poetry and short stories with the Rough Writers as well as starting her day with coffee with the Moose Gang.
Vera will be missed by her family, friends, and the community. Survived by her daughter Lisa (Mark) Brownson and son Mike, her sister LaVerne (Lloyd) Bock, sister-in-law Jeanne Stathos and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband, Bob and brother Marion precede her in death. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Grand County Library. Funeral services Friday November 4, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the Kremmling Community Church. Interment at Kremmling Cemetery.
