Obituary of Shirley Acord

Shirley was born in Brush Colorado, on Sept. 29th, 1932 and passed away in Granby on Jan. 16th, 2011. Her family moved to Grand Lake in 1948 and graduated at Middle Park Union High School in 1951.


She met the love of her life and her best friend, Don Acord, while working as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell Telephone. They were married in 1954. She and Don loved to travel and their favorite destination was Alaska.


She worked for several years at Gambles and later worked and retired from East Grand School District.


She is survived by her husband Don, brother Doug (Patty) Cody, sister Gen (Jim) Baller, and children Terry (Steve) Zupan, Polly (Gary) Allison, Mike (Kim) Acord, Pat (Cathy) Acord, Kelli (Jon) Acord, grandchildren; Paul (Tracey) Ray, Marc (Katie) Zupan, Becky Allison, Wendy (Jason) Regester, Gretchen (Danny) Reynolds, David (Suzanne) Silvas, Dominique (David) Silvas, Patrick Silvas, Zach, Tami, Mary Acord, Michael Acord, Erin Swietlicki, and 11 great grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by parents William and Pauline (Hoffman) Cody and brother Albert Cody.


Shirley was the original Martha Stewart and was known for her love of baking, decorating cakes, sewing, quilting, crafts, birds, and especially hummingbirds. She loved her gardening and canning. Shirley recruited all of her family to pick raspberries and choke cherries and all put in orders for her homemade jellies.


Her pride and joy was her family and she attended sporting events and school functions for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.


Memorial Service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Church of the Eternal Hills, Tabernash, Colorado.


In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to K.O.L.E. Foundation, American Cancer Society or American Lung Association.
