James E. Johnson of Granby, Colorado passed away peacefully in Pueblo, Colorado, on the 13th of January, 2024.
James was born in Booneville, Mississippi on September 3rd, 1935 to David James Johnson and Mary Fanny Story.
James was preceded in death by his brother Charles Johnson on December 15th of last year. He also lost his wife of 54 years, Charlene Baker Johnson on June 13th, 2007.
James and Charlene raised 4 children together, Keith Johnson (Karen), Jeanette DeBell (Joe), Christine Martin (Kevin-deceased), and Sheila Giles. James had 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
James was fortunate to find love again with Bernice Zamora. They had been together for the last 13 years, and she had been a wonderful partner and care-giver to James. The Johnson family appreciates all that Bernice was to James, and want to thank her for being such a loving partner for these many years.
James was an avid outdoors-man, and was recognized for a lifetime of hunting when he was only the 7th man in all of Colorado to take all 9 of the big game animals by bow and arrow. Quite an accomplishment, indeed. James took great joy in teaching his children and grandchildren to enjoy the outdoors as much as he did.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
There will be a private family service as per James wishes.
