Obituary for Robert Eugene Cook
Robert Eugene "Tooter" Cook, a Kremmling resident since 2000, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 27, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was 85.
Robert was the son of of Lawrence Robert Cook and Athalee Cook (Williams). He born on October 14, 1931 in Rupert, Idaho, and was the oldest of three children When he was seven years old, he moved to McGill, Nevada where he later worked alongside his grandfather, father and brother at the Kennecott Copper Mill. He then became a pipe fitter for Kaiser Steel in Fontana, California.
In Fontana, he met the love of his life, Jeannette Cook, in 1962. She was his bartender at Mike’s. They wed in 1964 in Reno, Nevada.
In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his dad and siblings. His favorite memory was carving his name in a family tree in their favorite hunting spot inMcGill, Nevada. It became known to all as "Tooter’s Tree," and is still there today. As an adult, Robert enjoyed deep sea fishing. He told his grandchildren the best stories from these deep fishing days.
Robert was proceeded in death by his loving parents and both siblings - Edwin Lee "Fern" Cook from California and Barbra Floyd of Tennessee.
Robert leaves to mourn his loving wife of 54 years, Jeanette Cook of Kremmling, children: Mickey Cook of Reno, Nevada; Becky Cook of Washington.; Laurie Geist (Brad) of Granby, Colorado; Debora Ruble Cook (Bill Karns) of Riverside, California; Renee Cook (Raymond Archuleta) of Kremmling, Colorado; Bobbie Hernandez (Ignacio) of Kremmling, Colorado, and grandchildren: Shannon Rakich (Joel) of Fontana, California; Bradley Bartkow-Geist (Ellie) of Granby, Colorado; Melissa Geist of Kremmling, Colorado; Robert Geist of Granby, Colorado; Alex Geist of Granby, Colorado; David Ruble of Maryland; Michael Ruble of Maryland; Rachelle Ruble of Riverside, California; Brian Skinner of Riverside, California; Lisa Strahl (Phillip Houser) of Casper, Wyoming; Michelle Strahl of Kremmling, Colorado;. Nicole Strahl (Brandon Thompson) of Greeley, Colorado; Anthony Cook "Cookie" of Kremmling, Colorado, and great grandchildren: Alexander, Chase and Brooke Rakich of Fontana, California; Damian, Eli, Haylee and Kaylee Bartkow-Geist of Granby, Colorado. Robert has a very large, loving family who miss and love him dearly. Remember Papa - "It’s not goodbye, it’s - see you later alligator."
A funeral for Robert Eugene Cook will be given by Reverend Joseph McLagan on Tuesday, December 20 at 1 p.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church at 106 S 5th street in Kremmling.
